November 1, 2025: Ford Motor Company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to invest ₹3,250 crore in reviving its Maraimalai Nagar facility near Chennai. The plant will focus on engine manufacturing for export markets.
The facility, which has been inactive since Ford exited vehicle production in India, will be retooled to produce next-generation powertrain engines. It is expected to have an annual capacity of 235,000 engines, with production beginning in 2029. The project is set to create over 600 direct jobs and additional indirect employment across the supply chain.

Jeff Marentic, President of Ford’s International Markets Group, stated that the Chennai plant will play a vital role in Ford’s global manufacturing network.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Industries Minister T.R.B. Rajaa, who emphasized the investment’s significance for the state’s industrial growth and employment generation.
