Suryakumar Yadav’s cricketing prowess took center stage on Monday as the International Cricket Council (ICC) unveiled the Men’s T20I Team of the Year for the 2023 season. The top-ranked batter not only secured his position as captain but also spearheaded a star-studded lineup that showcased the finest performances in the shortest format of the game during the T20 World Cup year.

Known by his affectionate nickname, SKY, Suryakumar Yadav assumed leadership responsibilities for the Indian cricket team in the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma and former deputy Hardik Pandya. Under his guidance, India participated in two T20I series against Australia and South Africa following the culmination of the One Day International (ODI) World Cup.

Suryakumar Yadav’s outstanding consistency throughout the 2023 season earned him the coveted captaincy of the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year. Retaining the top spot in the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings, he showcased his explosive batting style with notable performances, including a breathtaking century off 56 balls against South Africa in the final T20I of the year at Johannesburg.

In addition to Suryakumar Yadav‘s stellar contributions, the lineup features other standout performers who left an indelible mark on the T20I cricket scene in 2023. Debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal, who opened for the team, impressed with his skills, scoring 430 runs in 14 innings at an impressive strike rate of 159.

The bowling department sees the inclusion of India’s spin sensation, Ravi Bishnoi, who claimed the No.1 spot in the ICC T20 Bowling Rankings. Bishnoi’s exceptional performances against Australia, where he secured a wicket in every match and was named the Player of the Series, solidified his place in the prestigious lineup. Accompanying him is the pace spearhead, Arshdeep Singh, who bagged an impressive 26 wickets in 21 T20Is for India.
