COVID -19 INDIA NEWS India reported on Friday 38,949 new cases of COVID-19 and 542 more fatalities in the last 24 hours, taking its total tally to 3,10,26,829 cases and 4,12,531 deaths, according to a health ministry release.

The active cases have declined to 4,30,422, comprising 1.39 per cent of total infections. India’s COVID-19 recovery rate now stands at 97.28 per cent. The number of people who’ve recovered from the disease stands at 3,01,83,876. India has so far administered 39.53 crore vaccine doses under the nationwide inoculation drive against COVID-19, according to the Centre.

World Health Organisation about Pandemic

The World Health Organization (WHO) warned Thursday that “more dangerous” variants of Covid-19 could tear across the world as global infections soared to half a million daily, largely driven by the virulent Delta strain. “The pandemic is nowhere near finished,” the WHO’s emergency committee said in a statement.

Mumbai gets heavy rains

Mumbai woke up to overcast skies on Friday as the heavy rainfall continued overnight, leaving several parts of the city waterlogged by the morning. Traffic took a hit, with buses being diverted on multiple routes. Trains, too, were reportedly running late due to waterlogged railway tracks on the harbour and the slow lines.

Mumbai rains forecast : In its daily weather update, the regional meteorological centre predicted that the torrential downpour will continue across parts of Mumbai and its suburbs over the next 24 hours.

Surekha Sikri made her debut in 1978, with the film Kissa Kursi Ka. She won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress thrice, for her roles in Tamas (1988), Mammo (1995) and Badhaai Ho (2018). She gained prominence for her performance in the primtetime soap opera Balika Vadhu. Her performance in the Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer Badhaai Ho drew immense acclaim and was seen as somewhat of a career comeback.

Drone Use in India New Policy Unveiled

The Union civil aviation ministry on Thursday released the draft of the national drone policy, making it significantly easier for people and companies to own and operate drones, while also streamlining a labyrinthine certification process for manufacturers, importers and users, in a move that aims to boost future tech.

“In a major fillip to the drone industry, I am happy to present the Draft Drone Rules 2021 that mark a stark shift from the earlier UAS Rules. 10 key takeaways: Several approvals abolished & processes made easier; number of forms reduced from 25 to 5; coverage of drones increased from 300 kg to 500 kg; fee reduced to nominal levels; yellow zone reduced from 45 km to 12 km from the airport perimeter; no flight permission required up to 400 ft in green zones…,” Scindia wrote.

Mehul Choski

Mehul Choksi has now returned back to Antigua after his lawyers appealed in the Dominican High Court. Mehul Choksi was undergoing a hearing in the Dominican High Court in regards to his extradition to India, when his lawyers appealed for his transfer back to Antigua, citing his worsening health condition. After returning back to Antigua, Mehul Choksi has now released his first public statement, where he has called out the inhumane behaviour of the Indian government. In his statement, the Indian fugitive Mehul Choksi has gone on to say that he is considering coming back to India and prove his innocence if only his medical condition could allow it.

In its biggest climate package yet, the European Commission, the EU’s executive body, on Wednesday announced 13 policy proposals spanning energy, shipping, transport and manufacturing.

“The EU is to be applauded for its level of ambition in these targets and for aspiring to be a pioneer on climate change – it certainly sets a strong template for other industrialised nations to follow,” said Mark Wade, Head of Sustainability Research and Stewardship at Allianz Global Investors.

Gold and silver gained on Thursday amid fall in the U.S. bond yields and a third wave of coronavirus in many countries. Both precious metals settled on a positive note in the international markets on Thursday.

Spot gold was flat at $1,829.14 per ounce, but gained 1.2% so far this week. Investors took comfort from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s stance that the U.S. central bank would continue to support the economy and inflation will be transitory, said a Reuters report.

Technology News ; The Ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) is learnt to have withdrawn a letter it sent to Apple India, seeking details of compliance of its iMessage platform with the new IT rules, according to an agency report in India.

The development came after iPhone maker Apple explained to the ministry that its messaging service could not be considered as a “social media intermediary”.
