Windows 11 – which is set for October 5th – Microsoft is now making it easier for anyone to check if their PC supports Windows 11. The PC Health Check app, previously available to Windows Insiders, can now be downloaded by anyone. If you’re unsure whether your PC will be able to run Windows 11, running the new PC Health Check app is likely the easiest way to make sure.

Microsoft Windows 11 PC Health Check app scans your computer to see if it’s eligible for the major Windows update. It was taken down shortly after due to some controversy regarding the system requirements.

Windows 11 PC Health Check App Released

Microsoft had initially released the PC Health Check app when it first announced Windows 11, but due to controversies regarding the system requirements, it ended up pulling the app temporarily.

Late last month, it announced an update to its list of supported CPUs, and re-released the app. However, only those enrolled in the Windows Insider program could download it to check if their PC is compatible.

If you’re not aware of the system requirements for Windows 11, here’s the general rundown: You need a 64-bit CPU with at least two cores and 1GHz clock speeds, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage.

You’re also going to need TPM 2.0, a feature that’s been included in laptops and off-the-shelf desktops for the past few years, but may not be enabled if you have a custom-built PC. There are a few other requirements, but they should be met by the majority of devices that already meet the conditions above.

The new app release follows after the results of Windows Health Check up app testing. Microsoft says they have made a small number of additions to the compatible processor list (explained further below), but otherwise will maintain the minimum system requirements as originally set.

We have concluded that the compatible 64-bit processors selected, 4GB of memory, 64GB of storage, UEFI secure boot, graphics requirements and TPM 2.0 are the right minimum system requirements to deliver on the principles we established to best support you.

Windows PC 11 Health Check Up app comes with Reliability, Compatibility and Security Features

Reliability: Devices that do not meet the minimum system requirements had 52% more kernel mode crashes. Devices that do meet the minimum system requirements had a 99.8% crash free experience.

Security: Windows 11 raises the baseline of Windows security by improving the security default configuration to combat increasing cyber-attacks. These requirements were informed based on trillions of signals from Microsoft’s threat intelligence as well as input from leading security experts like the NSA, UK National Cyber Security Center and Canadian Centre for Cyber Security. Additional details on the background and value of Windows 11 baseline are below.

Compatibility: People continue to increasingly use their PCs for video conferencing, productivity and gaming. To ensure all Windows 11 devices can run a core set of applications to meet those needs, we set the minimum system requirements to align with some of the most commonly used apps.
