Feb 16: Mumbai: Web series “Poacher” has got the backing of Alia Bhatt. The webseries sheds light on a harrowing true-life story, actor-producer Alia Bhatt has announced her role as executive producer for the upcoming Prime Video series “Poacher.” This eight-part crime drama, created by Emmy-winning director Richie Mehta, uncovers the largest ivory poaching ring in Indian history.
“Poacher” stars Nimisha Sajaya, Roshan Mathew, and Debyendu Bhattacharya in prominent roles, and will begin streaming on February 23. The series, which premiered at Sundance 2023, is produced by QC Entertainment, known for films like “Get Out” and “BlacKkKlansman,” in association with Suitable Pictures, Poor Man’s Productions, and Bhatt’s Eternal Sunshine Productions.

Bhatt, who met Mehta in 2020, shared her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “It really leaves an impact… Supporting a story like this, for us, as an audience is very important, but I really thank Richie for putting this together. Talking about “Poacher” she said -There is a lot of genuineness in it. There is a lot of heart in it, and it comes across when you see the show”
Mehta, who gained critical acclaim for his Netflix series “Delhi Crime,” shared that the story came to him while working on a documentary project with Google, “India in a day,” in 2015. He discovered the ivory raiding in Delhi and the WildLife Trust of India’s involvement in the largest ivory raid in Indian history
Mathew, who plays a computer programmer in the series, praised Bhatt’s passion for cinema and the project, saying, “The last time when we were on a stage this big, it was for a project that gave birth to Eternal Sunshine Productions. It was a song launch, at that point, Alia was my co-actor. It was one of the most memorable biggest projects in my career, I was very fortunate to be part of it”
